The President’s Message

Welcome to the Oak Lawn Raiders Social Athletic Club website. This venue was created to inform the public about the Raiders SAC and what we do to serve the local communities. I want to take this opportunity to first thank all of the officers that assisted me last year and to congratulate all of the newly elected officers for 2010. This will be my fifth year in a row as President and I look to you for assistance in 2010. I also want to thank all of the members that participated in this past year’s events. I welcome all of the new members and look forward to working with you throughout this next year.

The Oak Lawn Raiders are a not-for-profit organization whose main purpose is to raise funds for those in need within our communities. We also try to have fun while doing this. The Raiders donated over $8,000 to various charities and people in need throughout the community. Some of these were the traditional groups that we have donated to in the past while others were just simple one time donations to a friend or individual that was running on some hard times. One highlight of our fund raising events was during the Holiday Season. The Raiders were able to raise enough money in just a few hours to provide Thanksgiving meals for thirty families in need throughout the Oak Lawn area. The Raiders truly focus on helping people out within out LOCAL communities. I wish to thank all of you that supported this past year. I look forward to seeing you again at this year’s events. Without you the Raiders would not have been able to raise the funds that we did.

I am proud to announce the first fund raising event of 2010 and probably the most popular event—The Raiders Winter Picnic. This year the Picnic will be held in memory of “Moose” Murphy. Moose was quite a local celebrity and legend. He traditionally was awarded the No. 1 picnic permit by the Cook County Forest Preserves. This permit was used for the Raiders Winter Picnic.

Moose passed away last year so we will be holding this Winter Picnic in honor of him. It will also be held at a long lost site—Tinley Creek Woods. I urge all of you outdoor lovers to come out and see how much fun you can have in the snow with the addition of great food, good friends, and some liquid libations to keep you warm.

Some of the other events that we have planned for this year are a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament, a Chicago Wolves Hockey trip, and the newest event, Oktoberfest. This should be a fun year. If you have never attended one of our events, I would encourage you to do so. You will definitely have a good time. If you have participated in the past then I look forward to seeing you again at future events. Please visit this website to keep up to date with the Raiders’ happenings.

Here’s to a Great Year!!!
